In the game “We play shopping”, children practice the basics of a purchasing process and exchange goods for money, comparing prices beforehand. In doing so, they learn to act in a planned manner and take an important step towards independence. First, the children familiarize themselves with the goods in the play market and explain why they would buy individual food items. Storytelling promotes the children’s language development. Then it begins: shopping lists are distributed. Now roll the dice and buy the cheapest goods for the list at the appropriate stand and put the money in the slot. The children carefully observe and take into account the price changes as the game progresses. Shopping professionals estimate how much the goods on the shopping list will cost before shopping and only then start playing. “We play shopping” develops the children’s basic mathematical understanding. As a result, they develop greater and greater confidence and soon dare to shop at the weekly market in real life with their parents.
