Dangerous mouths snap shut! Predatory dinosaurs with flexible jaws and razor-sharp teeth are always on the hunt.
Dinosaurs: Dilophosaurus
The Dilophosaurus lived 200-192 million years ago in the early Jurassic period. It grew to be up to 6 m long and was one of the first large, carnivorous dinosaurs of prehistoric times.
A crocodile has the same typical notch in its upper jaw as the Dilophosaurus.
The Dilophosaurus was one of the fastest prehistoric lizards after the Compsognathus and the Velociraptor. Despite its 6 m body length, it weighed only 500 kg and had long, powerful hind legs with which it could easily reach speeds of up to 38 km/h. It had two conspicuous bony crests on its skull, which gave it the name two-crested lizard. Although they were large and long, they were too thin to defend itself. Scientists believe that they were used to impress rivals.
