Barrel racing is particularly popular among female rodeo riders. The cowgirls have to ride around three barrels in the shortest time possible. This requires a lot of skill.
The barrels for barrel racing are always arranged in a triangle. It is also called a cloverleaf because it is reminiscent of the shape of the plant. The participants ride towards the barrels at a gallop and then circle them as quickly as possible. The horses have to be very agile in order to be able to make tight turns despite the high speed. If a barrel is knocked over, the race is lost. The competition was invented primarily for female cowboys, and to this day almost exclusively women take part.

Interesting facts
If a participant loses his hat during the barrel race, he receives a five-second penalty.
